Polymer for Electronics - an overview

3K

In the past few decades, inorganic materials, in particular silicon (Si), have been dominant in the electronic industry while organic polymer materials have been mainly used as insulators. Nowadays, with the increase in the demand for electronic products and the improvement in product performance requirements, polymer materials have attracted more attention and are gradually being used in the electrical field. Whether for structural components, or electrically conductive materials, BOC Sciences can tailor your needs to offer the most suitable polymer products.

Polymer Products Offering
There are various types of polymers and additives for your electronic applications.

Polypropylene (PP)
PP has excellent comprehensive properties, such as good chemical stability, good molding processability, and relatively low price. However, because PP has the disadvantages of low strength, low modulus, and low hardness, it must be modified before preparing the material for practical applications. It can be reinforced by adding minerals or glass fiber and modified with flame retardants. The modified PP has a wider range of applications in the electronics, such as speaker bell mouth, air conditioner outdoor unit casing, kitchen appliances, etc.

π-Conjugated Polymers
This type of polymer contains a conjugated long-chain structure, and the delocalized π electrons on the double bonds can migrate along the molecular chain to form an electric current, making the polymer inherently conductive, which can also be called conductive polymers. Compared with other conductive materials such as metals or conductive carbon black, conductive polymers have the advantages of low density, easy processing and molding, corrosion resistance, as well as can be processed into transparent. Moreover, the conductivity of materials prepared from these polymers can be adjusted by changing dopants, solvents and doping methods. This kind of polymers mainly include:

Cyano-Polyphenylene vinylene (CN-PPV)
Poly(fluorene vinylene) (PFV) and Copolymers
Poly(fluorenylene ethynylene) (PFE) Polymers
Poly(phenylene ethynylene) (PPE) Polymers
Poly(phenylene sulfide)
Poly(phenylene vinylene) (PPV) and Copolymers
Polyaniline (PANi) and Dopants

They can be used in a wide range of electronic applications, for example, electrodes (especially for rechargeable batteries), polymer solid electrolyte, transparent electrodes and light-emitting diodes (LED), printed circuit board (PCB) and electromagnetic wave shield, etc.

Additives, Polymer Modifiers
Polymer additives are compounds that must be added to improve the processing performance of the polymer (synthetic resin) or to modify the performance of the resin. They are used in almost every electronic and electrical material, and they can complement your final products, improve end-use attributes, and meet various specifications. Some are listed as follows:

Plasticizers
Stabilizers
Polymer property modifiers
Flame retardants
UV Absorbers
Crosslinking agents
And many more…

Whether sourcing the right raw material, developing a compound to meet the new requirement, overcoming research problems, or matching product properties to end-market needs, our seasoned experts can help you from upstream lines to arrive at the most appropriate solution to improve production and optimize your bottom line.
