What is Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD)?

A left ventricular assist device, or LVAD, is a pump. This pump device is used in the case of end-stage heart failure. It is a battery-operated electromagnetic mechanical pump that is surgically implanted into the patient's heart to help pump blood to the entire body.
