If you’re about to start your time in college then you have seen there are plenty of student apartments near UNR, which means you will find a place to call your own if you put in the time and effort.

Once you have found a student apartment that is right for you and your roommates, you need to start some planning. Moving into a new place always takes a bit of forethought and attention to detail. If you don’t do this, the moving process will be a headache and the days after you move will be stressful beyond belief.

The good news is that the planning isn’t too hard and there are only a few things to keep in mind.

Budgeting

What is one of the biggest things that you need to master when you are living on your own? Budgeting, of course. Having a solid handle on your money is a vital part of moving into an apartment and, sometimes, it takes a bit of effort - especially if you haven’t done it before. But there is no better time to learn budgeting skills than your early college days.

The first thing you should do is create a budget for your other living expenditures, such as rent and utilities. And don’t forget the other people who will contribute to that. If you want to live with roommates, think about shared expenses and have a clear grasp of who is responsible for what. Remember, everyone needs to be on the same page or else it’ll lead to future conflicts with your roomies.

Furniture & Supplies

Of course, you can’t live in an apartment without any sort of furniture or items that you’ll use every day. So, you need to be sure that you’re moving into a place that is actually comfortable and furnished.

Before you move, determine which supplies and furniture the apartment provides and what you will need to bring. Some places might give you a fridge, stove, or even couch, and more. But there are some things you might expect that don’t come with your new place, such as a shower curtain. So, make a list of all the necessities, including toiletries, cookware, bedding, and cleaning supplies.

Know Your Lease

A lease is a signed contract that you are going to agree to with the management company that owns your student apartment. Therefore, you need to understand it, respect it, and not violate it.

Before moving in, you should examine the lease carefully. Fully grapes all the conditions, such as the rent amount, length of the lease, and any other costs or deposits. And make sure that you verify the lease's terms about subleasing, possibilities for renewal, and consequences for breaching it. As long as you are sure you understand it all, you can sign on the dotted line.
