Turmeric is a finely ground powder that is the main ingredient in curry recipes; however, the plant has an important history of various uses. Turmeric essential oil is extracted from the roots of turmeric through steam distillation. It is a yellow-orange liquid with a faint blue fluorescence and a fresh spicy woody odor. It also has anti-allergic, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, and antifungal, qualities.

Blend well with:

Bergamot oil, Cardamom oil, Clary sage oil, Ginger oil, Lavender, Neroli oil, and Orange oil

BENEFITS

  • It supports and strengthens immune function and encourages a positive response.
  • It addresses negative emotions, fatigue, loss of appetite, headaches, and symptoms of allergies, colds, and fevers.
  • It soothes the mind and uplifts the mood with its warm, woody, earthy, and spicy scent.
  • It cleanses, clarifies, smoothes, calms, invigorates, and brightens the skin, and generally supports skin health.
  • It removes excess natural skin oil and reduces the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles.

HOW TO USE

  • For greater effectiveness, prepare your feet by first soaking them in warm water for 10-15 minutes, as this will help in the skin’s absorption of the oil.
  • For moisture, add 3 drops of turmeric essential oil to 4 Tbsp of carrier oil, such as coconut or neem, and leave it on for 30 minutes, then shampoo and condition as usual.
  • For massage, dilute 3-5 drops of turmeric essential oil in one Tbsp. of carrier oil, then massage the blend into the preferred areas of the body to relieve muscle pain, stiffness, and swelling.
  • For skin, mix 1-2 drops of turmeric essential oil with 2 Tbsp of apple cider vinegar. Now, gently massage the blend into areas of the face where wrinkles and fine lines tend to be more prominent, like mouth, nose, forehead, and neck.

CAUTIONS

  • Before using this oil, you should do a skin test. You can check it by diluting a drop of the essential oil in 4 drops of carrier oil and apply a small amount to a small area.
  • Turmeric Oil must not be used near the eyes, inner nose, and ears, or on any other sensitive areas of skin. The side effects of turmeric essential oil include irritation, dizziness, nausea, stomach upset, and diarrhea.
