Mark Chapman Ruled Out of Final ODI Against Pakistan; Seifert to Continue as Replacement

A residual hamstring strain will cause New Zealand's middle-order batsman Mark Chapman to miss the third and last ODI against Pakistan at Bay Oval on Saturday.

Replacing Chapman in the second ODI, Tim Seifert will keep filling in for the injured batter. While fans await the match, many have been passing time with apps like the billy 777 earning app, which has recently gained popularity among cricket enthusiasts.

The Injury and Absence of Chapman

Playing a match-winning knock of 132 runs—his career-best ODI score— Chapman suffered the damage while fielding during the opening ODI in Napier. Though at first there were hopes for a rapid recovery, an evaluation conducted during Friday's training session revealed he had not recovered full fitness in time for the last game.

Chapman will, therefore, not be present in the last international game New Zealand hosts for the summer. Particularly following his outstanding performance in the series opener, which set the tone for New Zealand's 73-run triumph, his absence hurts the Kiwi batting line.

Domancy of New Zealand in the Series

Having an impeccable 2-0 lead following another stunning 84-run victory in the second ODI, the Black Caps have already guaranteed the series. Since the last match is a dead rubber, New Zealand might want to try their bench strength even more.

Return to ODIs Following Five Years: Tim Seifert

Originally mostly known for his explosive T20Is, Seifert was called in as Chapman's replacement after his exceptional performance in the most recent T20I series against Pakistan. Having 249 runs at a strike rate of 207.50, he was the top run scorer in that series and received the Player of the Series trophy.

Seifert, on the other hand, has very little ODI experience; he has played three games in the format—the last one against Sri Lanka back in 2019. His participation in the ODI team implies that New Zealand is eager to investigate his possibilities for the 50-over style before the next trips.

Play XI Adjustments for New Zealand

New Zealand changed the second ODI a lot without Chapman available. The quick bowler, Ben Sears, was recruited into the side; Will Young was shockingly omitted from the starting lineup. This choice cleared the path for Canterbury hitter Rhys Mariu, 23, to start internationally.

Opening the batting with Nick Kelly, Mariu highlighted New Zealand's openness to try new talent. The Kiwis already lacked regular captain Tom Latham, who broke his hand during practice before the first ODI, therefore excluding him from the whole series.

Third ODI: What might one expect?

New Zealand might rotate their team more to provide chances for fringe players after the series is decided. On the other hand, Pakistan will try to recover some pride by means of a consolation victory.

Important things to keep an eye on:

  • Could Tim Seifert convert his T20 style into ODIs?

  • Development of Rhys Mariu: Will he get another opportunity to wow?

  • Pakistan's reaction: Can they prevent a sequence of whitewashes?

Final Thoughts

Although Mark Chapman's absence hurts New Zealand, it gives players like Tim Seifert and Rhys Mariu chances to show value in ODI cricket. The last match will be about fine-tuning strategy and evaluating bench strength before New Zealand turns its attention to their next overseas obligations. The series is already in the bag.
