New York City is known for its iconic sights and bustling streets, but as a fashion photographer, I have learned that there is so much more to this amazing city than meets the eye. From hidden gems to lesser-known locations, New York is full of beautiful spots just waiting to be discovered. So, I have compiled a guide to help fellow fashion photographers uncover the city's hidden gems and capture some stunning shots.

1. Rooftop Gardens

The city may be crowded with towering buildings, but there are green oasis hiding on top of many of them. Rooftop gardens offer a unique perspective and a touch of nature in the midst of the concrete jungle. One of my favorite spots is the High Line, an elevated park on top of an old railway track. The views of the city and the carefully curated gardens make for the perfect backdrop for a fashion shoot.

2. Street Art in Bushwick

While the street art scene in Brooklyn's Bushwick neighborhood may not be a secret to locals, it is often overlooked by tourists. The colorful and vibrant murals make for an edgy and urban backdrop for fashion photography. Take a stroll down the streets and keep your eyes peeled for hidden gems, or plan a shoot in front of the iconic Bushwick Collective's curated walls for a variety of art styles in one location.

3. The Cloisters

Tucked away in the northern part of Manhattan, The Cloisters is a medieval-style museum showcasing art and architecture from the Middle Ages. The stunning gardens and cloistered walkways provide a picturesque setting for fashion shoots with a romantic and old-world feel. Plus, the lack of crowds makes it a peaceful location for capturing that perfect shot.

4. Hidden Cafes and Bakeries

New York may be known for its coffee shops and bakeries, but there are hidden gems amongst the hundreds of options. Some of my favorite spots include the tiny and charming Cafe Mogador in the East Village, with its iconic blue exterior, or the cozy and intimate Maman bakery in Soho. These hidden cafes not only offer delicious treats but also provide unique and photogenic backdrops for fashion shoots.

5. The High Bridge

While the Brooklyn Bridge is a popular location for photographers, the High Bridge in Washington Heights offers a quieter and equally beautiful alternative. This pedestrian bridge connects Manhattan to the Bronx and provides breathtaking views of the Harlem River and the city skyline. The historic architecture and scenic locations along the bridge make for stunning fashion shots.

6. Chinatown Markets

New York's Chinatown is a bustling neighborhood full of energy and vibrant colors. The street vendors and markets offer a variety of interesting and unique props for fashion shoots. From colorful lanterns to exotic fruits and vegetables, the markets in Chinatown provide endless possibilities for creative and colorful shots.

New York City may have its iconic spots, but it is the hidden gems that truly capture the city's essence and offer a unique perspective for fashion photography. So, next time you're in the Big Apple, be sure to venture off the beaten path and discover these hidden treasures for yourself. Who knows, you may just stumble upon the perfect location for your next fashion shoot. Happy exploring!
