Elon Musk wants to be the Italian government’s sole telecommunications provider.

The billionaire’s SpaceX company is closing in on a $1.6 billion security contract after  Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate on Saturday. The Italian government promises that Meloni didn’t talk to Musk about the deal while she was there.

If enacted, Musk’s SpaceX would supply Italy with encryption services for government and military use. “Ready to provide Italy the most secure and advanced connectivity!” Musk wrote on his X platform.

Others within the Italian government aren’t as enthusiastic about the potential deal.

“If 1.5 billion euros of Italian money to use the satellites of an American billionaire in our country is the price to pay for his friendship, we do not agree,” said center-left Democratic Party (PD) lead Elly Schlein.

Musk’s eagerness to do business with the Italian government is unsurprising considering the right-wing neo-fascist who currently leads it. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni considers Musk a “genius.” Her crusades against immigration, same-sex marriage, reproductive rights, and anything else she considers “woke,” have endeared her to Musk, who has been attaching himself to the European right as of late.

This telecommunications deal is just the latest installment in Musk’s attempted Eurozone takeover. The CEO has meddled in German elections, singing the praises of it’s own right-wing party (AfD) as German politicians denounce his involvement. And in the U.K. Musk has been calling for the release of Tommy Robinson, a popular far-right, Islamaphobic activist and founding member of the British National Party. He has also railed about how civil war is “inevitable” there.

Elon Musk Spends Nights 'Several Hundred Feet' From Trump In A $2,000-A-Night Cottage At Mar-a-Lago

Since Election Day, Musk has been staying in a rented cottage on Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, putting him just a few hundred feet away from the former president's main residence, according to The New York Times. This cozy setup in a Banyan cottage reportedly costs around $2,000 per night. While it's unclear if Musk will pay the full price, Trump cannot shy away from a business opportunity.

This arrangement has given Musk unparalleled access to Trump during the transition period. From sharing meals to attending meetings with foreign leaders, Musk has been a constant presence. He's even been seen at Mar-a-Lago's Teahouse vetting candidates for key administration roles. It's apparent Musk isn't just along for the ride – he's playing a major role in shaping the next administration.

Musk has emerged as a major figure in Republican politics, reportedly contributing $277 million to pro-Trump efforts. At a Mar-a-Lago event on Nov. 14, Musk leaned into comparisons with George Soros, joking, "I guess someone's got to be the George Soros on the right." He outlined a vision for "restoring common sense" in America, focusing on safe cities, secure borders, fiscal responsibility and freedom of speech.

These comments reflect Musk's growing influence within conservative circles. His involvement isn't limited to speeches and donations, as Trump appointed Musk to colead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) with Vivek Ramaswamy. Their goal? To slash federal spending by up to $2 trillion – a task analysts believe might yield more modest results, given the $1.8 trillion federal deficit projected for 2024.

Life at Mar-a-Lago

While staying at Mar-a-Lago, Musk's day-to-day life has made headlines. He's been accompanied by two of his 11 children and their nannies. Known for making special requests, such as meals outside normal kitchen hours, Musk's presence has been a hot topic among the estate's members.

Musk's proximity to Trump also means he regularly attends key gatherings, such as dinners with influential figures. In one instance, Musk “crashed” a dinner where Trump hosted Jeff Bezos, one of Musk's rivals.

Despite his stay at Mar-a-Lago, Musk has denied rumors of purchasing property near the estate. When speculation arose that he was buying real estate in the area, Musk dismissed it outright, tweeting, "I'm not buying or building a house anywhere."

Musk believes that Trump's presidency will be a turning point for the nation. He's described it as potentially "the most transformative presidency since the country's founding." Praising Trump's Cabinet picks and Republican victories across the country, Musk has expressed optimism about America’s direction.

However, with tensions rising between Musk and Trump's MAGA allies over H1B visa policies, which Laura Loomer described as a "civil war," sources have revealed that Trump is growing increasingly frustrated with Musk's omnipresence and the media frenzy that seems to follow him.

"100 percent Trump is annoyed," a source from his reelection campaign shared with Mediaite. "There's a Chinese proverb that says, ‘two tigers cannot live on one mountaintop.'"
