Temperatures were below 30 degrees when Fetterman arrived at Capitol Hill for the swearing-in ceremony of Trump and Vance

Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman wore shorts and sneakers to the U.S. Capitol for the swearing-in ceremony of Donald Trump and J.D. Vance.

Despite chilling temperatures that moved the inauguration inside, Fetterman, 55, was seen sitting in the front row in the Capitol Rotunda as attendees took their seats before the ceremony began on Monday, Jan. 20.

The senator was also wearing a black hoodie to the event, where he joined guests such as Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos to watch Trump take office for his second term.

CBS reporter Scott MacFarlane shared a photo of Fetterman arriving at the Capitol on Monday, when temperatures were hovering in the 20s.

"Wind chill in the teens… as Sen John Fetterman (D-PA) arrives at Capitol in shorts," MacFarlane wrote on X.

Melania Trump, meanwhile, arrived at U.S. Capitol for her husband's second inauguration with her eyes covered by a wide-brimmed hat.

Melania wore a dark coat and skirt from New York designer Adam Lippes and added the large hat to the ensemble, becoming the first first lady to wear a hat to the daytime inauguration since Hillary Clinton in 199. Clinton wore a blue velvet bowler hat that did not obstruct her face.

Fetterman's appearance — including his signature hoodie — has made headlines in recent years. In an op-ed published by NBC News in September 2022, he opened up about the personal meaning behind some of his tattoos.

Fetterman — who served as the mayor of Braddock, Pennsylvania from 2006 to 2019 — revealed that the nine tattoos on his right forearm represent "a day on which someone died violently while I was mayor of Braddock."
